26 Way to Use Lavender in Your Home
I was in love with lavender from the start but now having a large amount of it I’ve discovered even more ways to extend its beauty into winter. Here are 26 ways to use lavender in your home— from cleaning the floors to opening your sinuses.
Lavender Wands – Creating lavender wands is an ancient practice to preserve lavender buds within their own stems through the use of weaving ribbon in a basket pattern. Use them in your closet to deter moths, hang it in your car as a natural freshener, hang it on doorknobs to perfume rooms, and give them as unique gifts. You must make them when the lavender is fresh (July), or purchase them from a family farm. Its labor intensive and an art form so you’ll never see these commercially produced.
Lavender Wreaths – Lavender wreaths look good all season long, not just for the holidays, and they hold their color and fragrance well and are a great way to soften a room. Check out ours in the shop if you want to order one or make one yourself with dried lavender.
Herb Swag – Lavender can be added with other dried herbs to make an herbal swag for the kitchen or the shower. Try lavender, eucalyptus, and sage for the shower. And lavender, sage, rosemary, and thyme for the kitchen. Use a rubber band and raffia to tie it all together at the top and hang it with the stems facing the sky.
Fire Starters – Lavender that is left over or has lost its color can be used as a fire starter during the winter. It ignites quickly and gives your fire a nice aroma.
Lavender Infused Honey - Add 1/2 cup lavender buds to a jar of honey and let steep for 2 weeks in a sunning window. Strain out the buds with a colander and use the infused honey over toast, yogurt, or ice cream. It also makes a great facial mask!
